The vulnerability of highlands to climate change is undeniable. These changes have a noticeable impact on nature, mountain communities, and consequently, the economy.

Dry springs, increasingly hot summers, more intense and concentrated rainfall, dry winters, and scarce snowfall… These are all events that herders and farmers are already grappling with today, events that increasingly influence the lives and choices of those working in the area. Alpine pastures are likely the ecosystems most sensitive to the effects of climate change and human pressures.

In the past summers, water has even arrived at alpine pastures through tanker trucks. The grasses in the pastures are changing and giving way to more woody plants, which are less suitable for animal feed. The alternation between drought and excessive rainfall is compromising the production of mountain honey.

In this scenario, how can we ensure a future for herding and other mountain activities that contribute significantly to the balance of the ecosystem?
