Permanent meadows and pastures are also a treasure trove of beauty.

At Cheese 2023, we don’t just talk about them in-depth and offer tastings, but we show them to you through images and the voices of their custodians.

In the permanent meadows and mountain pastures, hundreds of different plant species coexist—a true feast for cows, goats, and sheep that consume them, transforming them into energy and producing high-quality milk. It is also a precious bounty for pollinating insects.

This documentary, Follow the Grass, takes you to the origin of the cheese we desire and, in doing so, speaks about much more: the survival of fragile ecosystems, valuable landscapes, the balance established over centuries between plant and animal species, and the work of humans who recognize their value and care for them.

  • Roberto Pizzutti, video maker and Forestry Office for the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region
  • Remo Schellino, director of the film
