Visitors of all ages are invited to discover The Taste of Meadows through all five senses!

Five stages where you can put your sense of smell, hearing, sight, touch, and taste to the test and discover all the goodness, beauty, and vitality of alpine meadows and pastures. Gain a deeper understanding of the meadow ecosystem, its role in terms of ecosystem services, its importance for pollinators, birds, and biodiversity in general, and its cultural and anthropological value.

The stages of the journey:

  • Smell. What do you experience when smelling the various herbal and floral scents? What’s the difference between different types of hay produced in Italy and around the world? Are they all the same? And what are the characteristics of the cheeses derived from them?
  • Hearing. Meadows have their own sounds! You can discover this by listening to the birdsong and the buzzing of pollinators. Who can recognize them?
  • Sight. Here, you can see the composition of fertile soil and its grassy cover. Compare it to arid and depleted soil typical of monocultures. You will also understand how a stable meadow or pasture can store much more CO2 than dry land.
  • Touch. A stable meadow not only provides excellent milk but also the wool of the animals that graze and live there. In this area, you can touch, work with, and shape wool and other materials like felt, and try your hand at dyeing and carding…
  • Last but not least, taste! The journey ends with a sensory experience: the tasting of cheeses from stable meadows and flavored waters infused with meadow essences.

The journey can be freely enjoyed and is open to all event attendees: the different levels of interpretation make it suitable for adults, families, and school groups.

To fully enjoy the journey, specific activities have been scheduled during certain time slots. All appointments last one hour. If you’re interested in participating, come back in September to reserve your spot.

Cheese 2023 is organized by Slow Food and the City of Bra from September 15-18. See you there! #Cheese2023
